MEET DOREEN AND THE TEAM
Scofield Lighting owner Doreen Joslow says, “I caught the love of beauty in an art appreciation class taught by a Brown Art Professor while studying business at Bryant University. After that, I studied in London briefly. I needed to see up close what I had studied from various museums in London and I made a quick trip to Paris and the Louvre. Life happens, I moved around the country, worked in marketing and sales for some great companies before getting married and raising a family. Graduate school at Wesleyan pulled out more classics, literature, and by then I had the ability to travel and enjoy seeking out what I’d studied. This business and the really great people who are our clients, suppliers, craftsmen and industry experts-- it is all fun, stimulating and incredibly challenging. We love it!”
Wonderful surprises come with collaborations at Scofield. Especially satisfying are the designers who take a familiar historical shape and make it beautifully unfamiliar. “It’s startling,” she says, “to follow a talented designer’s eye and have your spatial assumptions shaken up. The twists and turns in collaboration mimic the added beauty given to both the designed object and its production. A good designer keeps us on our toes, and we usually come away with the satisfaction that even now shapes and designs over two hundred years old can find their future forms.”
The Scofield team is packed with talent and a desire to share inspiration, ideas and techniques. Our craftsmen and finishers, those who bring the designs to life, are Pete, Steven, Gary, Michael, Phil and Zack. Our craftsmen transform inspirational pictures, forms and sketches into sconces, lanterns and chandeliers made from copper, tin and steel. Jon and Doreen work with Sales, Clients and our Craftsmen to ensure that custom fixtures flow from concept to design to quote to production without a hitch. We all enjoy the diverse assignments and projects that typically require collaboration with designers, architects and contractors.
JoAnne is our company manager, but more of a symphony director at the center of a whirlwind of creativity.
The Scofield team has extended roots into the artistic community. We employ guilders, iron workers, structural and electrical engineers and a host of artists to help us execute wonderfully unique custom pieces. We assemble these teams around specific commissions and projects-drawing from a wealth of talent and experience -- that allows us to accept custom work with the confidence in knowing that we are able bring the appropriate skillsets to every commission/project.
Supporting the efforts of Scofield to connect with the Trade, industry partners and our present and future clients is a creative and design community including Hall, Michelle, John, Erica and the team at Julia Balfour, LLC.
